Tackling mental health issues in the entertainment industry

Taking care of our performers is a top priority for the Pop Up team. Having worked in the industry ourselves, we have a deep understanding of the highs and lows that performers can encounter, whether that’s during auditions, rehearsal periods or throughout a performing contract.

Our programme aims to nurture, support and encourage each performer we work with from the very start of the process and throughout their journey with us. Find out more about our mission to change the industry for the better!

our recipe for
performer welfare

As performers ourselves, we understand what it means to bring support and compassion into the world of entertainment. We create strong bonds with every single one of our performers, and we know that they deserve the very best care we can offer.

With this in mind, we put together our Happiness & Wellbeing Programme, which we can safely say is leading the way when it comes to tackling mental health issues in this difficult industry.

Each performer is enrolled into our Happiness & Wellbeing Programme during their introductory sessions working with Pop Up. The programme includes a variety of perks, as well as the opportunity to join in with Pop Up traditions and overall have a positive rehearsal and performance experience.

Our Programme Includes:

  • 10% off sports & aromatherapy massage, sports nutrition & podiatry

  • Complimentary professional workshops such as dance, aerial and nutrition

  • Discounted headshots

  • Discounts across a range of our partner brands

  • Friends of Pop Up benefit scheme: Recommend a friend to attend an audition with us, and receive a thank you treat if the audition is successful!

  • Rehearsal Graduation: A Pop Up tradition for the end of every rehearsal period, where we celebrate the hard work of our performers with our own graduation ceremony! Hats and gowns, champagne and photo shoots are all included.

  • Fizz Fridays: Another tradition for our performers to enjoy every week. Finish rehearsals on a high with the whole team and enjoy a drink together as you reflect on everything you’ve achieved.

  • Free access to the Pop Up Counsellor: Anyone can anonymously contact our counsellor at any time, and this service is available for all performers and office staff.

more about our mental health mission

Our Managing Director Amy has made it her mission from the very beginnings of Pop Up to spread awareness about mental health stigma in the entertainment industry. We’re proud to be supporting performers on their mental health journey, opening up conversations about difficult issues and providing a uniquely compassionate rehearsal space.

It is all too common for performers to face serious mental health battles throughout their careers, and sadly, it is past experiences from our management team that have led us to where we are today. So, we’re using our growing success and our position as industry leaders to initiate real change. It’s about time we transformed this industry, so join us on our Mental Health Mission and spread the word!

  • “Everyone was so helpful, supportive, and passionate which made it so easy to get to work and have the best time! Choreographers, MDs, everyone was so knowledgeable and I cannot believe how well supported we were (and are)”

  • "Personally for me I felt fully supported during the entire process which I’ve never had before. Everyone was always approachable and it became such a pleasurable working environment.”

  • "Honestly from the bottom of my heart, I enjoyed every minute! Coming into a company like Pop Up really opens your eyes and makes you realise how bad you may have been treated before. Let’s hope other companies follow suit and make a change!”

  • "I loved it, all the treats, the fact I knew that you would have done anything to help us with anything (counsellors, physios anything like that that wasn’t necessarily rehearsal or work related) that we might have struggled with, just one big supportive family… so lucky!"
